In the dynamic world of surgery, the concepts of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) have become increasingly significant, shaping the landscape of surgical training and practice. This podcast delves into the multifaceted aspects of DEI in the surgical realm.

Looking back over the past decades, we acknowledge the historical lack of women in surgical training and celebrate the progress made in increasing gender representation. We aim to dispel stereotypes about surgeons and underline how crucial it is to understand that, despite working in the same department, every surgeon is an individual who is susceptible to mistakes. This idea must be reaffirmed if an inclusive environment is to be fostered.

Furthermore, we address the topic of microaggressions, exploring ways to deal with and prevent their occurrence. By fostering open dialogues, promoting empathy, and developing cultural competency, we can work together to mitigate these harmful experiences and support an excellent surgical community.
