Dr. Toby Pring


Mr Toby Pring is Colorectal and Peritoneal Surgeon in Dublin, Ireland, he is currently a locum consultant surgeon at University College Dublin and The Mater Hospital, a university teaching hospital in central Dublin. His subspecialty interest is in colorectal surgery, advanced colorectal cancer and complex pelvic surgery. He graduated from the University of Bristol in 2009 and has undertaken his post graduate training in Bristol and London. He undertook his PhD studies at Imperial College London during a clinical research fellowship at St Mark’s Hospital under the supervision of Mr Ian Jenkins, Professor Stella Knight and Professor Thanos Athanasiou.

He returned to St Mark’s Hospital, the National Bowel Hospital, as a Resident Surgical Officer (RSO) in April 2023 and undertook the prestigious RCS accredited Minimally and Maximally Invasive Colorectal Cancer (MiMICC) Fellowship in complex cancer at St Mark’s. Following completion of his Fellowship at St Mark’s, Toby undertook an international RCSI accredited fellowship at The Mater Hospital, Dublin further specialising in peritoneal disease, cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC. 

His research interests are in the host immunological response to colorectal cancer, the relationship between this immune response and host body composition and ways in which we can manipulate these changes in body composition to improve outcomes. During his research he has collaborated with research teams both in the UK and internationally.

He has been involved in medical leadership throughout his career, he has represented trainee colleagues during surgical training, he sits on the BMA armed forces committee and is a medical performance assessor for the UK General Medical Council (GMC). His leadership interests are in transferring leadership skills and models from private industry into the public healthcare sector.

Outside of work, Toby lives between London and Dublin, has two young children and is married to a fellow colorectal surgeon.
