Prof. Thomas Knoll studied medicine at the Universities of Heidelberg and Mannheim. He then completed his doctorate at the University Hospital of Mannheim and received his doctorate from F. J. van der Woude in 1998. This was followed by his habilitation in urology in 2005. At the same time, he studied health care management at the University of Mannheim and graduated with a Master of Science.
After several years as a junior doctor in various areas of the university clinic, he became a specialist in urology in 2004 and head of the department of minimally invasive urology/urolithiasis. In 2005 he was appointed chief physician at the university clinic for urology and in 2007 extraordinary professor at the Ruprecht-Karls-University Heidelberg. Since August 2008 he has been chief physician at the urological clinic at the Sindelfingen-Böblingen Clinic.
Thanks to his clinical and experimental work, he is regarded as a renowned expert on urinary stones and prostate diseases. For many years he was chairman of the working group on urinary stones of the German Urological Society (DGU). He has been a member of the Guidelines Office of the European Association of Urology (EAU) since 2014 and a member of the Scientific Office of the EAU since 2015. At the 31st World Congress of Minimally Invasive Urology in New Orleans, Prof. Dr. Thomas Knoll received the "Arthur Smith Award" for his outstanding work in research and teaching.
He is also the author of the book "Clinical Management of Urolithiasis".
