Dr. Sylvonne Layne is a General Surgery resident at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. She completed her undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree and graduate Master of Public Health degree at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA in 2011 and 2013. She accomplished her Medical Degree at Howard University College of Medicine in 2017.
She has demonstrated a strong interest in mentorship as an Academic Coach in the R.I.S.E Mentoring program at the University of Pittsburgh while in graduate school and continued to mentor undergraduate students in the Student National Medical Association during medical school. As a resident educator, she continues to mentor undergraduate, medical students, and junior residents. She has served as her class representative in the Program Evaluation Committee for 3 years.
Her professional and surgical interests are in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, identifying and reducing health disparities, and strategies to improve access to surgical and general healthcare.
